Jean-Benoît Burrion
Jean-Benoît Burrion, M.D. is a medical expert specializing in cancer prevention, early detection, and the organization of Cancer Centres. As the head of the Prevention and Screening Clinic at HUB/Institut Jules Bordet, he plays a key role in shaping cancer prevention strategies and advising Cancer Centre management.
Dr. Burrion earned his medical degree from Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and holds additional qualifications in tropical medicine (Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp), occupational health and industrial toxicology (UCL, Brussels), and hospital management (ULB, Brussels).
With over 20 years of experience as a physician and program director in low-income and crisis-affected regions, he worked extensively on public health development with NGOs before transitioning to cancer care and prevention in 2006.
Since then, he has been actively engaged in primary and secondary cancer prevention, overseeing population-based screening initiatives and leading Belgium’s participation in the international Horizon 2020 “My PeBS” study. Additionally, he shares his expertise as a lecturer in cancer epidemiology and statistics at HELB (University of Brussels’ nursing school).
Dr. Burrion has played a pivotal role in the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) Accreditation & Designation (A&D) programme since 2008, serving as a lead auditor for numerous Cancer Centres. His leadership was recognized in January 2021, when he was appointed Chairman of the OECI A&D Board.
