Prof Aoife Lowery

Professor Aoife Lowery is a consultant breast and endocrine surgeon at Galway University Hospital and Professor in the Discipline of Surgery at the University of Galway.

A University of Galway graduate, Aoife completed her specialist surgical training on the RCSI Higher Surgical Training Programme and an International surgical fellowship at AP-HM (Hopitaux Universitaires de Marseille) France. She also completed her PhD investigating miRNA as breast cancer biomarkers on the Molecular Medicine Ireland Clinician Scientist Fellowship Programme.

Aoife is currently a recipient of the Irish Cancer Society Clinical Research Leadership award and a principal investigator in the Women’s Health Initiative cancer survivorship programme co-funded by the Irish Cancer Society and the National Breast Cancer Research Institute. Her clinical and translational research portfolio includes biomarker discovery and a focus on how emerging biological information integrates with evolving personalised surgical cancer management and clinical evaluation of novel interventions to reduce the burden of cancer treatment.

She is an associate director of the Irish Clinical Academic Training (ICAT) PhD programme, a clinical advisor and mentor on the Bioinnovate Ireland fellowship programme and Clinical Lead for the Clinical Research Facility at University of Galway.
