Dr Jean Benoit Burrion

Jean-Benoît Burrion, M.D. is involved in the organisation of Cancer Centres and the prevention/early detection of cancers. He runs the Prevention and Screening Clinic at the Institut Jules Bordet, where he is also an advisor to the Cancer Centre management. He obtained his medical degree from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He also holds degrees in tropical medicine (Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp), occupational health and industrial toxicology (UCL, Brussels) and hospital management (ULB, Brussels).

He worked for 20 years as a doctor and programme director in low-income countries, in crisis situations and on health development issues, mainly with NGOs, before turning to cancer care and prevention in 2006.

Since 2006, he has been involved in primary and secondary cancer prevention, both at the Institut Jules Bordet and in population-based screening programmes.  He coordinates the international multicentre Horizon 20-20 study “My PeBS” in Belgium. He is also a lecturer in cancer epidemiology and statistics at the nursing school of the University of Brussels (HELB).

He has been involved in the development of the accreditation and designation programme of the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI A&D) since 2008 and has been a lead auditor for many years.  In January 2021, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of OECI A&D.
